President Kiir donates 15 million pounds to Torit catholic Diocese

South Sudan President Salva Kiir has pledged donation of 15 million South Sudanese Pounds to the Catholic diocese of Torit.

The pledge was announced by Marial Benjamin, the minister of presidential affairs on Sunday during celebration to mark the centenary of the diocese in Torit town of Eastern Equatoria State.

“Our president has donated 15 million SSP for this occasion, and also he has donated V6 vehicle for our bishop because the bishop will need to move every where to visit the Toposa, Didinga, Buya Lotuko and other places preaching the word of God, peace and reconciliation,” said Benjamin.

Louis Lobong Lojore, the Governor Eastern Equatoria state, urged the church to continue with it’s work of preaching peace.

He said that people of Eastern Equatoria have maintained their decade’s old culture of hospitality, adding that this is now being abused by migrant armed pastoralists from neighboring Jonglei State who have been wracking havoc since last year.

“Our state is very peaceful; I believe all of you have enjoyed the hospitality of the people of Eastern Equatoria state. Our state has small issues the worst one is the insecurity being imported by cattle herders from other states which now is creating fear among the population,” said Lobong.

Metropolitan Archbishop of Juba diocese and the apostolic administrator of the catholic diocese of Torit, Dr Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla called on the church to continue evangelizing and preaching peace and reconciliation in South Sudan.
