Police to deploy 50 security operatives in Aweil town during festive season

The South Sudan National Police Services said it will deploy about 50 officers to conduct patrol around Aweil town during Christmas season.

The Police Commissioner of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state, Philip Madut Tong on Thursday said the officers will use armored vehicles to patrol in the main streets of town and the neighborhoods.

“We want to celebrate in good mood and end in the same way. Therefore, the 50 officers will have to do their work as instructed,” said Madut during press conference in Aweil town.

His remarks came after the Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal Tong Aken Ngor had urged the citizens to cooperate with security forces during the festive season.

“I want to urge everyone to cooperate with security personnel whom we have instructed to provide protection to citizens and their properties during the celebration,” said Tong while appearing on Akol Yam radio.

Tong warned that they will regulate the sale of alcohol to ensure that the local gin such as royal gin and star gin which his government banned earlier are not on the market.

Northern Bahr El Ghazal state has been experiencing rise in crime since September which alerted authorities to raise security preparedness to crackdown criminals.
