Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal arrest suspect over fatal grenade explosion

Police in South Sudan’s Northern Bhar el Ghazal state have arrested a man over the explotion of a grenade at a party over the weekend and will prosecute him in court.
The explotion which occured in the wee hours of Saturday morning left two people dead and injured over 20 others.
People were celebrating the success of a footbal tornament at Kuei rach village of Udhum payam.
Captain Guot Guot Akol, the police spokesperson for Northern Bhar el said the suspect was apprehended on Monday night and investigations are continuing.
“Some people are saying that it was a generator that exploded while other victims are saying that it is the suspect that exploded the grenade, so now we have opened a case against the suspect who we apprehended last night and he is now under custody and the matter will be taken to court,” Akol told Juba Echo.
According to him, the suspect insist he didnt blow up the party, blaming a generator for the explosion.
“Of course in such a situation, every one can deny a crime but we are not an authority to prove whether what he is saying is true or false, so w are just taking his statement and victims statements and it will be upto the Court to decide,” Akol said.
Aweil Civil Hospital Director, Dr Wol Wol Akeen confirmed post mortem results claiming it was a grenade that exploded.
“We have done our post mortem results and to us as doctors, we suspect a grenade explosion,” Dr Akeen said.
“So we have submitted our results to the police team and we shall see what will come up with them.”
