Persons with disabilities receive wheelchairs in Aweil
Smile Africa Development Organization a local NGO last week donated wheel chairs to 25 persons with disability in Aweil town.
Akech Michael, the project officer for Smile Africa Development Organization (SAADO) said that many people living with disability are overburdened with movement.
“We have done many surveys and learnt that many people are suffering in the state. So we managed to purchase for them 25 wheelchairs which will facilitate their movement,” Michael told journalists in Aweil town.
SAADO worked together with the Northern Bahr El Ghazal ministry of social welfare to evaluate and register the beneficiaries.
Michael said that persons with disability will now be able to move to their farms and also do business with the support of the wheelchairs.
Garang Deng, one of the beneficiaries said that he has been finding it extremely difficult to move from his home.
“We have been crawling and our hands could get dirty but now we are going to be like other human beings,” Deng said.
The state ministry of social welfare together with philanthropist Achai Wiir donated motorbikes to persons living with disability in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state in 2022.
