At least 30 participants have attended a dialogue aimed at driving peaceful and social co-existence. The event was organized by Amalna South Sudan with intention of discussing challenges hindering peace at a community level.
Arike Richard, the Outreach Manager for Amalna South Sudan said the dialogue forum is to bring together like-minded stakeholders who are working to promote peace and social cohesion.
“The idea is that we had some engagements in the state in relation to peaceful co-existence. There were some findings in our previous engagement and in those findings, we want the state-level discussion so that they (communities) look into those issues and also give their own recommendations and action to move forward in relation to social co-existence,” said Richard.
He added that the dialogue forum presents an opportunity for all stakeholders to have time to talk to each other and get to learn from each other and have a joint recommendation on social co-existence within Jonglei State
For his part, Elijah Mayan Lul the Director General at the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare said the dialogue forum is vital to remind the people about peace and for the community to discuss issues facing it.
“All of us are aware of peace, we are working very hard to implement peace because since the crisis we were working hard to implement peace and the dialogue forum will help discuss and see the possibility to achieve peace in Jonglei,” said Elijah.
Elijah urged the government to empower the youth in a capacity building because the youths play a crucial role in bringing about lasting peace.
