OPP calls for opening up political space ahead of 2024 election
The opposition parties under the Other Political Parties (OPP) grouping are calling for opening up political space ahead of the 2024 election.
Peter Mayen Majongdit, the chairman for People’s Liberal Party and also the leader of OPP, said they are also calling for the national security services and the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) to remain neutral during the elections.
“We are running for elections but we have conditions that must be met, those conditions include opening up political space and non-interference of national security in political affair,” Majongdit said in an interview in Juba on Tuesday.
His remarks come at the time when OPP prepares to hold conference from 23 to 25 August 2023 in Yambio to choose it’s presidential flag bearer.
“We are also going to endorse the flagbearer and a gateway for 2024 elections, we are not going to be underdog, the national security and other security organs should not be involved in political affairs,” he said.
Other Political Parties comprises of 10 political parties including People’s Liberal Party (PLP), United Democratic Front (UDF), United South Sudan Party (USSP) and Union of Sudan African Party (USAP) among others.
