Northern Bahr El Ghazal residents urged to embrace family planning

Residents in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state have been urged to family planning procedures in order to space their families.

“Some people do go round talking ill about taking the pills or contraceptives to control the birth for a given period. This is something that helps in reducing infant and maternal mortality deaths,” said Marko Ayuel Ayuel, the reproductive health officer in Aweil tyown during an interview.

Ayuel said a lot of people are against family planning due to stereotypes.

He said that reproductive health services help prevent unwanted pregnancy and spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

“Some women get complications during delivery such as rupture of the uterus and you can also see the high number of street children which is something that people have to work to address through family planning,” Ayuel said.

He said contraceptives are provided free of charge to women, urging them to take this chance up.

Ayuel also said that a woman who has gone for family planning can even pursue her studies.
