New head of South Sudan oil corporation focuses on increasing production

The new Managing Director of South Sudan’s Nile Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Chol Deng Thon Abel has plans to focus on increasing crude production in the country.

Abel who was fired from the position in September 2020 was reappointed on Friday by President Salva Kiir.

South Sudan is currently production 156,000 barrels of crude daily.

Speaking at a handover ceremony of office in Juba, Abel said production increase will be achieved through deploying enhanced and improved oil recovery techniques.

“Another option is, we will work with our partners, Ministry of Petroleum to bring in new players so that the acreages that are not taken are assigned,” he said.

Abel replaced Bol Ring Mourwel who headed the corporation in the last 13 months.

“In order to achieve the projects and objectives of the company, we have to make sure we have a good corporate governance and culture which comes through proper financial management and improved employee capacity,” he said
