Morobo Commissioner accuses NAS rebels of abducting chiefs, youth leaders

The Commissioner of Morobo County of Central Equatoria State, Joseph Mawa claimed that suspected members of the National Salvation Front (NAS) led by General Thomas Cirilo Swaka are abducting local chiefs and youth leaders.

Mawa revealed this on Saturday during the visit of Emmanuel Adil Anthony, the Governor of Central Equatoria State to the area.

“The challenge we have seen here along corridors between DR Congo and South Sudan is the abduction by NAS rebel groups, they are abducting chiefs and chairpersons of youth,” Mawa said during meeting with Governor Adil in his office.

He said that although the security situation is calm, NAS rebels continue to abduct people in the area.

“The security situation in Morobo County is relatively calm, people are returning from refugee camps in Uganda and people are also coming from DR Congo in big number,” he said.

In September 2021, local authorities in Morobo County accused NAS rebels of ambushing vehicles carrying humanitarian aid to the County.
