Minister Awut starts consultations on improving learning in N. Bahr el Ghazal

South Sudan’s national minister of general education and instruction has started consultations with with teachers and officials in Aweil town of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state in a bid to improve quality of learning.
“I am going to be here for six days with you and our goal is to hear from teachers, commissioners, government officials and partners on the way to fix the education which is key to opportunities and development of our nation,” Awut Deng Achuil, the minister of general education and instruction said during the opening of the education conference in Aweil town on Monday.
She is expected to discuss with teachers and students about the challenges they face.
“One of the items that will be discussed in the conference includes screening teachers and how they will be motivated as well. County commissioners, your government elites will be discussing with me the challenges and solutions to be done in order to put education as priority number one,” Awut said.
Garang Lual Bak, education supervisor in N. Bahr el Ghazal state, said that they want to explore ways of fixing the teachers’ problems.
He welcomed the screening exercise for teachers, saying it will improve on quality learning.
Bak said the screening of teachers started in Lakes State.
