Mentally ill man stabs two people in Aweil West County
Two people are nursing critical wounds after they were stabbed by a mentally ill man in their home in Aweil West County of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state.
Eye witnesses told Juba Echo on Monday that the suspect Kenyang Lual, stabbed 3 -year-old Garang Kur in the chest and also stabbed her family neighbor Amiir Kuol Piol in the head who had rushed to the house to save the infant.
The incident which took place last week in Anyuom-jak village located in Gomjuer West payam of Aweil West County.
Adut Garang, who witnessed the incident, said the two victims are being treated for their wounds in Nyamlel hospital.
The deputy director of Nyamlel hospital, Lual Khamis Lual said they received two people last week from Anyuom-jak village in critical condition.
“The boy was stabbed in the chest and the woman is also suffering from stab wounds. The two victims were having serious wounds as they were bleeding,” Lual said.
Lual also noted that the patients are recuperating in the hospital after receiving treatment.
LT. Col Philip Agany, the police criminal investigation officer in Anyuom-jak said they arrested the suspect.
“The man who is purported to be mentally ill is arrested as we fear that he would carry out another attack,” Agany said.
He also faulted the suspect’s relatives for allowing him to move freely around despite being aware of mental condition.
