Measles and Polio vaccination campaign kicks off in Unity state’s Rubkona County

The vaccination campaign against measles and polio for children aged 5-15 has kicked off in Unity state’s Rubkona County.

Rubkona County health director, Jal Kuol Malow said the vaccination campaign is targeting 223,584 children.

He told Juba Echo on Monday that the County has registered 1,000 measles cases and 40 deaths.

In total Unity state has registered more than 61 deaths due to measles since July.

Malow said Rubkona County has one of the highest prevalence rates of measles following outbreak in July.

“The measles vaccination campaign is targeting 109,362 children and for polio vaccination we are targeting 114,222 children in greater Rubkona County,” Malow said.

The vaccination campaign is expected to be conducted in neighboring areas such as Bentiu internally displaced persons camp, Rotriah camp for returnees and Ruweng Administrative Area.

Malow said the vaccination campaign will last for 10 days.
