Manyang proposes retirement of veteran military officers
Senior Presidential Advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk on Monday suggested the retirement of veteran officers from active services to pave a way for young people.
Manyang proposed that veteran combatants should be retired to allow others to join.
“The military is not for old people, it is for young people, and we need old people in top positions to be retired and given pensions,” Manyang said during the commemoration of the 39th anniversary of the SPLA Day in Juba.
“The old one may get a position like chief of the defence force, deputy chief of defence forces and commander of the brigade and the rest can be given to young people,” he added.
Manyang said after retirement, the officers should be given a pension to start investment.
“Old people need to be taken out of the army and given money so that they can do their business,” Manyang said.
The war veteran stressed the need to reduce the number of officers ranging from first lieutenant, second lieutenant, captain and major.
“The rest of the people who are old can just go for pension. We need to reduce the number of officers ranging from first lieutenant, second lieutenant, captain and major. We may need 10 brigadier generals and 5 major generals and 2 lieutenant generals,” he said.
