Peace conference aimed to resolve chronic land disputes among communities in Lirya Payam of Juba County commenced on Tuesday.
The Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative (WPDI) organized the four-day conference attended by women, youths and elderly from the three Bomas of Ngulere, Nangalla and Ilangri Bomas of Lirya.
Primo Selverio, the Chairperson of Lokoya Humanitarian and Emergence, told Juba Echo on Wednesday that they resolved about 75 per cent of the root causes of the land conflicts.
“We are left with 25 per cent of the issues especially the conflict over land ownership. But as you know the remaining issue are the boundaries which is one of the most difficult issues,” Selverio said.
“We are trying and we hope that the boundaries will be resolved amicably,” he added.
The communities from the three Bomas will be expected on Friday to come up with recommendations to end the long-running land conflict.
