Kajokeji community saving lives through blood donation initiative
Youth from Kajokeji County of Central Equatoria state have established voluntary blood donation initiative to support the sick and the injured.
Anna Modong, the team leader for Kajo-Keji youth voluntary blood donation pool, said on Monday the initiative is aimed at saving lives of the community.
“We have realized that a lot of people are dying due to lack of blood and these are preventable deaths, so this initiative is just to create a pool of readily available donors,” Modong told journalists in Juba.
“In case of emergency, the community will reach out to the coordinator and they will be able to get hold of the volunteers in our pool, we will donate immediately to the person in need of blood transfusion,” she added.
Modong revealed that the blood donation initiative will help replace blood lost during emergencies such as surgery or injury for the Kajo-keji community members.
She said the voluntary blood donation initiative has so far rescued three lives including two women who delivered by caesarean section, and a soldier who was shot at the border with neighboring Sudan.
