Juba water project to benefit 400,000 households

The Juba water supply project being constructed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will benefit 400,000 households once it is completed next year.

This was confirmed on Thursday by Tanaka Akihiko the President of JICA in Juba during the opening ceremony of Freedom Bridge another project funded by the Japanese government.

“Water is essential for everyone, the construction is on track and so the entire water supply system will be in operation by February next year. Nearly 400,000 people in Juba will have access to safe and clean water,” Akihiko told journalists.

South Sudan’s first ever modern water project is being funded to a tune of 53 million U.S dollars.

Akihiko disclosed that the Japanese government remains committed to engage in collaborative activities with the people and government of South Sudan.

“We are very happy to observe that this very important system of water supply is on track and in doing that we are able to cement the relationship between the people of South Sudan and the people of Japan,” he said.
