Jonglei parliamentary caucus calls for justice to victims of clashes in Twic East
Lawmakers from the counties of Bor, Duk and Twic East in Jonglei State have called for speedy investigation to bring justice for the three victims of the recent clashes between two fishing communities in Lang area of Twic East County.
In a joint statement issued Tuesday, the chairperson of the Jonglei parliamentary caucus in the national legislative assembly, Deng Dau Deng Malek said the perpetrators behind the killing of three people including a prominent wrestler Deng Dau on October 15 should be apprehended and brought to justice.
“We the parliamentarians from Bor, Duk and Twic East counties call upon the Jonglei state government to expedite their approaches of apprehending the real culprits and bring them to book,” Malek said.
he clashes between Hol community of Duk County and Ayual community of Twic East County over access to a fishing ground left also three other people injured.
“We call for unified engagement of the local leaders from both sides, especially the paramount chiefs and the whole traditional authority, we also encourage the national government institutions to expedite their current efforts,” Malek said.
Malek added leaders within the parliamentary caucus are currently engaging the people of the two counties as well as other stakeholders for peaceful resolution of the incident.
Maj. Gen Elias Costa, the police commissioner for Jonglei state said the police in Jonglei state is hunting for the culprits, adding that the culprits once found will be arrested and brought to book.
