Investigations against Dr. Machar will be transparent- Foreign Affairs minister.

The minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation on Tuesday
briefed the Diplomatic Corps and representatives of UN agencies on the current situation in South Sudan and the progress of implementing the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramadan Mohammed Abdallah Goc in a press conference with the delegations, ambassadors said the government is investigating the case involving South Sudan’s first vice president Dr. Riak Machar, the Minister of Petroleum, and other SPLM/IO officials from the opposition regarding the events in Nasir.

According Goc, “The government would conduct the investigation transparently and, if sufficient evidence of culpability is found, there would be a transparent trial.”

The Minister assured the public of government’s commitment to maintaining peace and prevent incidents that might escalate into war.

Goc stated, “The Government of South Sudan is committed to using political means to resolve political issues.” and that tge country is safe as the government is working to ensure the safety and security of all.

Government said it had arrested first vice president Dr. Riak Machar for alledged involvement to clashes that occured in Nassir leading to invasion of an SSPDF garrison in March.

The Sudan People Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) have continued to call on the government to release Dr. Riak Machar at it does not know what charges leveled against the party leader as tge arrest is not only a violation of the 2018 peace deal which ended the 5- year civil war but also a violation of his constitutional rights.

Both the government and members of the opposition party have called for calm among the public-adding the two parties will resolve their difference through dialogue.
