International Women’s Day celebrations to be held in Wau
The Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare Aya Benjamin Warille confirmed on Friday that this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations will be held in Wau town of Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
“The day calls for accelerating gender parity, significant activities witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements rally for women equality,” Warille told journalists in Juba.
She called upon women to take action on gender equality in order for their achievements to be remembered worldwide.
“On International Women’s Day, we remember that as long as one woman faces discrimination, harassment, inequality or oppression we all do,” Warille said.
The day is celebrated on March 8th annually to acknowledge the political, economic, social and cultural achievements by women worldwide.
This year’s theme is “Promote Gender Equality through Innovative Technology towards better South Sudan”.
The celebration is expected to be attended by ministers; gender focal persons from the government institutions, UN agencies, women groups and NGOs.
