Health officials confirm 14 measles cases in Aweil

The ministry of health in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State on Tuesday confirmed 14 measles cases in Aweil West and Aweil East Counties.

Thomas Dugan, the surveillance officer in the state ministry of health said that the first measles case was confirmed after samples were tested at the Public Health Emergency Center in Juba.

He revealed that the affected children are being treated for measles at health centers in Malualkon and Nyamlel.

Despite this, Dugan said they are lobbying partners to provide them with vaccines.

“We are lobbying partners to support us so that mass vaccination is carried out. We are looking for international organizations who are partnering with us in the health sector so that they carry out immunization,” Dugan said.

Measles is an acute highly contagious disease caused by genus morbillivirus virus.

Measles signs appear in form of skin rash, fever, running nose, cough and red eyes.
