Government working to bring communal conflict to an end: Makuei
The Minister of Information, Communication, Technology, and Postal Services Michael Makuei Lueth said on Friday that they are trying their level best to bring communal violence to an end across the country.
“These conflicts, most of them are not new, they are coming every time, and the government is trying its best so that such events are under control for people to live together. We are trying our best such that peace prevails in those areas,” he told journalists after the weekly cabinet meeting in Juba.
However, Makuei did not divulge details on the measures the government is taking to control the rampant communal violence that has left hundreds killed and thousands displaced in some parts of the country.
Last month, armed youth from Jonglei State attacked Gumuruk County of Pibor Administrative Area leaving 56 killed and thousands of people displaced.
There are also recent reports of cattle raiding and child abduction in Uror County of Jonglei State.
In addition, clashes erupted early this week between Twic community of Warrap State and their neighbor of Abyei community.
