Government to Release Final Report on Killing of South Sudanese in Sudan

The government has confirmed that the final report on the killing of South Sudanese nationals in Sudan will be released once ongoing investigations are concluded. The announcement was made Thursday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
In 2024, disturbing videos circulated online showing South Sudanese civilians being killed in Wad Medani, Gezira State, reportedly targeted on ethnic grounds. At least 13 people, including children, were killed in the incident.
The killings sparked violent backlash in South Sudan, with retaliatory attacks in several towns reportedly claiming additional lives.
Speaking during the ministry’s weekly media briefing, Ambassador Phillip Jada, Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the government is working closely with Sudanese authorities to establish the facts.
“The investigation into the killing of South Sudanese in Sudan is ongoing. Relevant decision-makers in both countries are engaged, and once the final report is ready, South Sudanese will be informed accordingly,” Amb. Jada stated.
Responding to media questions on whether the visit of Sudan’s Sovereign Council Deputy Chairperson, Malik Agar, was related to the killings, Amb. Jada clarified that Agar’s mission focused on peace and security matters, not the civilian deaths.
“The Deputy Chairperson’s visit was centered on discussions with our leadership about border security and other shared concerns. It was not connected to the incident in Wad Medani,” he explained.
Amb. Jada reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining dialogue with Sudan to strengthen bilateral relations.
“We want to continue engaging with our neighbor on issues that affect peace, security, and the broader bilateral relationship,” he added.
