Ghanaian Peacekeepers vaccinate 5,000 heads of cattle in Unity State

The Ghanaian peacekeepers have vaccinated 5,000 heads of cattle in Ngony Payam of Koch County in Unity State.

The vaccination campaign that commenced on Wednesday is targeting 10,000 heads of cattle in seven payams under Koch County.

“We have come up with this program to vaccinate cattle because we saw many cattle are dying due to diseases related to flooding,” George Gatloy Koang, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan Liaison Assistance Officer in Koch County told Juba Echo.

Koang said that the vaccination campaign is ongoing in Ngony payam and will extend to Mirmir, Gany, Norbor and Pakur payam respectively.

He added that the purpose of carrying out vaccination is to rescue cattle from Anthrax, HS diseases, Foot and Mouth diseases and other flood- related diseases.

Unity state is among the most affected states by devastating floods in South Sudan since 2019.

Nearly one million people in mostly the states of Upper Nile, Unity, Jonglei and Warrap have been affected by flooding which has worsened the already dire food insecurity in South Sudan.
