Cultural festival dance to unite tribes opens in Aweil town

Several cultural dancers have started to descend on Aweil town for the two day cultural dance festival that opened on Thursday.
The two- day cultural dance festival started is organized by the Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport.
Bol Akuar Gamar, the State Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport told Juba Echo on Friday that they organized the cultural dance with support from United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to bring together people of all walks of life to showcase love and unity.
“Cultural dance festivals can change the mindsets of our people. Our native cultural dances are fading away so we have to revive them, our people are losing the cultural norms,” Gamar said.
“If we don’t take the positive parts of our culture then our kids will adopt the other western styles which may not correspond with ours,” he said.
Gamar said the dance festival is going to continue people from the counties are ready to participate in the dance festive.
“The people of Aweil are great people, there is no war and what I love is that people live in peace and no problems. This cultural dance festivity is worth uniting peaople. I would love the other people of the neighboring states to come here and take such example on how people can stay in peace,” Nyamech Chol from the Nuer ethnic community who is married to a Dinka said in Aweil.
