Civil Society Organizations Call for Inclusive People-Driven Dialogue As Foundation for Post A-RCC
By John Agok
A consortium of Civil Society organizations in South Sudan on the Implementation of the Peace Agreement have called for Inclusive People-driven Dialogue for Post-ARCSS implementation in their Sunday joint statement.
“We the civil society groups are cognizant of efforts made by the parties to the ARCSS, the guarantors, the international community, and the stakeholders to implement the agreement; such efforts have resulted in the formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU)” reads part of the joint statement.
The citizens` group however, expressed concern that seven months to the end of the transitional period, key components of the R-ARCSS have not yet been implemented and there is no precision on how the remaining features will be executed.
“We are aware of how vulnerable our country is, the current unhealthy development within R-TGoNU, and the protracted delay to achieve peace with the non-signatory groups to R-ARCSS; all of these pose serious threat to the future of the country. “We strongly caution against publicizing imperative national processes such as elections without harmony”. They underlined.
The group further say, they have keenly monitored the implementation of R-ARCSS from the time it was signed, and witnessed several deadline postponements without any solid achievements registered thus cautioning against any further extension of the RARCSS beyond February 2023.
It is worth noting that the Voluntary Civil Society Taskforce on Implementation of Peace Agreement (The Taskforce) is a network of over 30 diverse and impartial civil society organizations (CSOs) with a wider grassroots presence in 10 States and 3 Administrative Areas.
The Taskforce works to ensure that there is a genuine implementation of the peace agreement that paves way to peace and stability in South Sudan” the statement further reads.
