Civil society members and government officials in Bentiu trained on fundamental human rights

The humanitarian partners based in Bentiu, Unity State Health Education and Relief Organization, (HERO) has concluded a one-day training to 30 members of civil society groups and state government officials about fundamental human rights and transitional justice process.

The one-day training focused on strengthening women and youths’ rights through economic empowerment in unity state. The training was attended by unity state ministry of gender child and social welfare, state peace commission and members of various civil society groups. The training was conducted in Bentiu town, youth Centre.

The Health Education and Relief Organization (HERO) peacebuilding officer Mrs. Chigoa Machar Tutroal told Juba Echo that their organization is ready to conduct similar trainings in future.

“The one-day training enabled civil society representatives and state government officials to know more about fundamental human rights, civil and political rights and transitional justice including customary accountability.” Said Mrs Tutroal.

She stresses on the need for more focus on promotion of human rights and justice for South Sudanese people.

“In our organization we always conduct capacity building to strengthen women and youths’ rights through economic.” Added Mrs Tutroal

Unity state Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare’s Director for Planning and Budgeting, Wilson Gatduel Baak appreciated Health Education and Relief Organization (HERO) for conducting training about fundamental rights and transitional justice process.

“This training comes at the right time and it’s in the right place, if humanitarian Peace partners continue to engage community and government officials about fundamental human rights and transitional justice process, there will be permanent peace in South Sudan, let Health Education and Relief Organization (HERO) continue with this meaningful project.” Mr. Baak said.

Mr. Simon Riek is a member of civil society organization working for dialogue and research Institute DRI, he said that the training on fundamental human rights will boosted skills of civil society members to know more about human rights and transitional justice process.
