Calm returns to Kurijik after deadly clashes over land

South Sudan’s national Police said it has deployed forces to quell tensions in Kurjik suburb of the capital following deadly clashes on Tuesday that left six people killed over land.

 The violence erupted after Charles Joseph Wani, the Commissioner of Juba County visited disputed piece of land located North West of Juba town.

 “We have deployed our forces to the area and the situation since yesterday is calm,” Gen. Justin said “The police have arrested 53 of them and they are being investigate,” Maj. Gen Daniel Justine, the Police Spokesperson told Juba Echo in Juba.

He disclosed that more than 50 have been arrested over the melee.

Juba is prone to deadly clashes over land usually pitting powerful moneyed military officers, and politically connected individuals against the underprivileged people.
