Cabinet passes occupational safety and health policy
The Council of Ministers on Friday passed the occupational safety and health policy which aims to provide conducive environment and improved health safety for both workers in the private and public sector.
This was revealed to journalists in Juba by Michael Makuei Lueth, the Minister of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services.
“The Cabinet listened to the Minister of Labor hon. James Hoth Mai on the occupational safety and health policy, this document is very important because it makes a provision for the creation of a healthy environment for those who are working whether in the private sector or the public sector,” said Makuei.
Makuei said the new policy was adapted by cabinet and will be sent to the Transitional National Assembly for consideration.
He said that the policy will provide healthy environment to those who working in government ministries and other institutions.
“When you are working, your working place must have a conducive atmosphere for you to work, the area should be clean and should not be polluted, and also there are other diseases contracted through course of employment in some ministries and other institutions,” said Makuei.
“For example, the Ministry for Roads should have a conducive environment for employees in the sector,” he added.
Makuei said that under this policy employers are liable for the medical treatment of their employees in case of accident at the work place.
