Business women call on government to facilitate market for agro-products

South Sudanese business women on Tuesday called on the government to support them to export their products to markets outside the country.

“We need the help of the government to make it easy for South Sudanese to export their products to neighboring countries and beyond, we need backing because we find it difficult to ship our products outside but yet it is easy to import,” said Stella Andy Geri, the Manager for Taste of South Sudan during the closing of the two- day symposium on women in business in Juba.

Geri also said the government should also subsidize electricity tariffs so that they remain in business.

“Most women in business sell their products within South Sudan, many of them still do not know ways of shipping products to other countries, we want to expand our market not only South Sudan but beyond Africa,” said Geri.

Jane Gordon Soro, the Executive Director for South Sudan Women Entrepreneurs’ Association said business women in South Sudan are facing challenges of access to electricity, adding that the power is expensive for growing businesses.

“In South Sudan, we have women in business who have started doing the agro-processing business, we have the challenge of power, our power is not constant and it is expensive,” said Soro.
