Health officials in Aweil West County of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State on Monday appealed to the public to turn up anti-rabies vaccination.
Lual Khamis, a Health officer in Nyamlel area, said that dozens of people have been admitted in the health facility due to dog bites.
“You need to bring your patient immediately when a dog bite happens. Five people have been released after they were bitten by dogs, three children are still admitted,” Khamis said.
“As a society we are interconnected and we help ourselves as Africans. When you have a problem like your child or a family member is bitten by a dog, kindly step in to help contribute for the vaccination. The vaccines are expensive but you need to get anti-rabies immediately,” he added,
Anti-rabies vaccine costs more than 100 U.S dollars.
Several deaths caused by rabies have recently occurred in Aweil West County due to failure to afford treatment.
