Aweil South County in dire need of medicines for malaria

Aweil South County remains in dire need of medicines for malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea amid the ongoing rainy season.
This was revealed on Wednesday by Joseph Giir Ngor, the Health Director for Aweil South County after the end of the training for 286 Boma Health Workers (BHWs) in Aweil town.
The health workers acquired knowledge on treating diseases like pneumonia, diarrhea and malaria.
Ngor said that there are no malaria drugs in his county, adding that the Global Fund needs to step in to help replenish drugs.
“These people go deep in the households; they do screening of children with malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia diseases. The BHWs also make referrals of the complicated cases. So their work is instrumental at the grassroots,” he said.
The Director General in the Northern Bahr El Ghazal Ministry of Health, Peter Dut Thiep, said they are doing all they could to support the BHWs.
“The partners’ responses take three months; we have given the boma health workers supplies for three months while we wait for the partners to bring the drugs,” Thiep said.
The Malaria Consortium based in the capital, Juba is in charge of supplying drugs to all counties in South Sudan.
