Aweil Hospital runs out of blood

Medics in Aweil hospital of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State have launched campaign to urge people to donate blood amid shortage.
Luka Lual Aleu, the health education focal point at Aweil state hospital, said on Friday they are already overwhelmed with the high number of patients needing blood.
He said the most affected are patients with anemia.
Lual said the blood in the blood bank can only support 13 patients.
“Lack of blood is challenging to us as health workers. The people we need to give blood stem from 18-65 years old. Dozens of people do perish as a result of lack of blood. The liters we have are equivalent to 18 bottles of blood and people are in need of it,” he said.
Lual said doctors are helpless unless the public donates blood to salvage the situation.
“If you don’t donate blood then your relative can just die in 5 minutes and it is important to donate blood,” he said.
The call for blood donation comes a head of International Blood Donation Day on June 14 annually.
