Awareness on Gbv will increase societal rehabilitation, say Women
Women in Gumbo have said Gender-Based Violence (GBV) will now be successfully mitigated following the training of women counselors.
Ajah Ateny, one of the GBV counselors in Gumbo, said they are willing to end gender-based violence in the community.
“Most of us women have been undergoing horrible assaults in our various houses, and this is undeniable. Otherwise, we will stand tall to correct the mishap from now on, it is unacceptable and inhumane,” said Ateny.
The training was conducted by local based NGO Active Citizens South Sudan (ACSS) with support from German Development Agency, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
Ateny said they will be working to eradicate GBV malpractices among the communities in Gumbo-Shirikat.
Adding that case management and counseling and guidance is needed to support GBV survivors and other vulnerable groups.
Gai Makiew Gai, a project officer of ACSS said the trained counselors are charged with creating awareness on GBV and rehabilitation of communities.
“They will provide GBV case management and one-on-one emotional support counseling, and guidance to GBV survivors, they will also provide information and raise awareness in the community and to female beneficiaries on GBV and the referral pathway,” said Gai.
