Authourities Condemmn the barbaric acts carried out by suspected armed youth from Misseriya on the innocent people in Abyei.
On April 26th, an incident occurred and persisted for three consecutive days, motivated by a series of incidents along the Abyei-Ameit market road. These incidents included robbery, looting of civilians’ property, and gross misconduct.
“On May 4th, another group of Misseriya armed elements arrived at the hand pump in Noong village, approximately 10 km north of Abyei Town. Despite posing as peacekeepers, they instead intimidated civilians by restricting access to water. This provocation led to conflict, resulting in one Misseriya militant being injured,” Ngor stated.
He continued, “Later that day, the armed group regrouped and launched a severe attack on Noong village at 10:00 AM, resulting in six civilians being critically wounded. Simultaneously, another attack was reported in Kol-Bol, west of Abyei Town, leading to the deaths of two young men.
” Ngor appealed to UNISFA to fulfill their mandate and ensure protection for civilians as per the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
He offered his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The Minister of Information, Culture, Youth, and Sports in Abyei Special Administrative Area, Yohana Akol Ngor Kiir, issued a statement on Monday, May 4th, condemning the barbaric acts carried out by suspected armed Misseriya on innocent Ngok Dinka in Abyei – specifically in Ameit, Noong, and Kol-Bol areas.
