Aid worker arrested on allegation of posting defamatory message on social media

A humanitarian worker with Danish Refugee Council (DRC) was arrested on Tuesday in Unity state by police on allegation of posting defamatory message on social media against some member of his community.

Koch County Police Commissioner, Brig. Gen Tut Wal Dang said Daniel Wal Tuol was accused of defaming his community of Norbor payam community by Matai Gatchang Thuok after he posted resolutions of a meeting on blood compensation on his Facebook page.

Brig.Gen Tut Wal Dang said members of Norbor Payam community held meeting last week.

“We have nothing to do as we are keeping law and order, we will send the defamation case to the community court because we have no criminal court in Koch County currently,” Dang said

Dang also said the humanitarian worker was arrested by members of his community.

The Danish Refugee Council field office in Bentiu confirmed the arrest of their staff  Daniel Wal Tuol.
