Agriculture Minister Engages Renk Farmers to Address Agricultural Challenges

The Minister of Agriculture and National Food Security, Clement Juma Mbogonoya, has led a high-level delegation in discussions with farmers and local leaders in Renk County to identify solutions to challenges affecting agricultural production and strengthen food security.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and National Food Security, Michael Reborte, said the government is committed to addressing the concerns raised by farmers.

“Our discussions focused on the key challenges facing farmers, including limited agricultural inputs, poor infrastructure, and the need to strengthen agricultural extension services. We are committed to working with all stakeholders to improve agricultural production and food security,” Reborte said.

The Minister of Agriculutre and Forestry, Akoj Jol Ahick, said increasing agricultural production remains a government priority to boost the economy and reduce food insecurity.

“Agriculture is the backbone of our economy. The government remains committed to supporting farmers and increasing food production to improve livelihoods and strengthen national food security,” Ahick said.

Renk County Commissioner, Deng Deng Lueth, reaffirmed the county’s commitment to creating a favorable environment for farming.

“We will continue to support our farmers by ensuring a secure farming season, waiving fees on agricultural inputs, and strengthening partnerships with development organizations to increase production,” Lueth said.

Meanwhile, Joseph Abdallah Sudani, a member of the National Parliament’s Agriculture and Food Security Committee, called for greater national support to farmers in Renk County.

“The national government must invest more in supporting farmers in Renk County. With adequate support, this area has the potential to significantly increase food production and contribute to the country’s food security,” Sudani said.

The meeting brought together government officials, local leaders, and farmers to discuss practical measures to improve agricultural productivity and enhance food security in Upper Nile State.
