Activists urge transitional government to fund NCAC
The Executive Director for the Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA) has urged the transitional unity government to provide funding to the cash-strapped National Constitution Amendment Committee (NCAC).
“I call upon the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity to put in place a sum of money so that the donors will support the NCAC,” Ter Manyang Gatwech told journalists in Juba on Thursday.
On Wednesday, national members of the NCAC laid down their tools due to unpaid arrears for 10 months period.
The NCAC is mandated to incorporate the revitalized agreement into the transitional constitution, review security, political parties and election laws among other things.
Gatwech said that failure to support the NCAC will have a negative impact on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.
“There will be implication including delays in the permanent constitution making process, lack of trust between parties and donor community, lack of commitment by First Vice President Riek Machar and President Salva Kiir on institutional reforms,” he warned.
