Activist urges gov,t to resolve grievances of national UAP staff

The executive director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization Edmund Yakani has urged the government to help resolve grievances of UAP insurance staff were recently relieved from their jobs.

“When people are demanding for their salaries to be increased should not be reason to warrant termination of their contracts,” Yakani said in an interview with The Dawn on Sunday in Juba.

He appealed to the government to take this issue seriously, saying the management of UAP must be held accountable by the government.

On October 4th 2023, the undersecretary for the national ministry of Labor Mary Hilary met with UAP management over the matter of the dismissed striking staff.

Both the ministry of labor and the UAP management failed to comment openly over the grievances of the staff.

Yakani revealed that about 7 staff have been relieved by UAP after they demanded for salary increment.

He said CEPO has registered complaints of 45 South Sudanese who were unfairly dismissed from three different companies a span of two years.

“We have learned that over 15 staff have lost jobs with UAP and there are similar cases that are not reported, the harassment is getting worse every year,” Yakani said.

He called on the ministry of labor to engage private companies over what he termed as “discriminatory practices” against national staff.
