South Sudan to host East African inter parliamentary games

The National Minister for Youth and Sports Dr. Albino Bol Dhiew has said, all activities at Buluk Playground are suspended to allow construction until next month as the country prepares to host the East African Inter-Parliamentary Games.

The construction work was inaugurated by delegation from South Sudan Olympic Committee (SSOC), Speaker of Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Jemma Nunu Kumbu, and National Minister for Youth and Sports, Dr. Albino Bol Dhieu.

South Sudan Parliamentarians made their debut at the regional games last year in Tanzania and Juba will host other regional lawmakers in December.

This tournaments are organized by EALA to create bond between the regional legislators from both Houses of Parliament in their respective countries.

As part of the preparation, South Sudan has embarked on construction of a track around the Buluk Ground to host athletic events in a joint initiative between the national government and South Sudan Athletic Federation (SSAF).

Dr.Albino Bol Dhieu, the National Minister of Youth and Sports, said that plans are underway to construct two additional play grounds.

“Such sports infrastructure is very important for a country like South Sudan, and if completed, South Sudan will be able to host international athletic games that the country has been missing due to lack of standard facilities,” Bol said.

Meanwhile, Eche Wanji, the Regional Integration and East African Affairs Committee of the Young Parliamentarian Forum, says Buluk Ground athletics track will be the first of its kind in the country.

“We all understand that South Sudan is behind in terms of hosting international events due to a lack of facilities. We were supposed to host several regional games, including East African Police and Military Games, which did not happen as it was planned,” she added.
