About three children have reportedly been killed in an attempted cattle raid in South Sudan’s Jonglei State, the United Nations Children Fund said, demanding that children should not be targets in violence.
The children “were reportedly killed during an attempted cattle raid on Ghoh cattle camp, in Pagil payam on 18 of February which left a total of 12 dead and 10 wounded,” UNICEF said in an emailed statement attributed to the Country Representative, Hamida Lasseko.
“UNICEF condemns such indiscriminate attacks against children and civilians in South Sudan,” Lasseko said.
“Children are the most impacted by the continued violence and humanitarian disasters.”
UNICEF expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
“We call upon all groups and individuals to respect that children and their families are kept out of harm’s way,” Lasseko said.
