South Sudan lifts Covid-19 partial lockdown

South Sudan has lifted a COVID-19 partial lockdown placed in December last year after new infections have drastically reduced.
The lockdown was instituted last year after a surge in the virus.
It was lifted on Wednesday after reassessing the situation as improving, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Health, Victoria Anib, told Juba Echo by phone.
βHowever, we still advise the general public to maintain the precautionary measures,β Anib said.
A surge in infections among people travelling in December prompted the partial lockdown.
South Sudan has recorded 16,820 COVID-19 infections since the first case in April 2020. Of it, 13,077 recovered while cumulative deaths have been 137.
On February 2, it recorded 8 cases.
