President Salva Kiir Mayardit met Wednesday with leaders of political parties as South Sudan prepares to hold an inter-party dialogue on Sept. 17 on the country’s electoral process and transitional political arrangements.

The dialogue is expected to bring together political parties and other stakeholders to discuss and seek agreement on key electoral issues ahead of the December 2026 general elections.

The meeting will also address issues related to the country’s transitional political settlement and preparations for the post-election period, according to the presidency.

The inter-party dialogue is intended to provide a broad platform for political actors to negotiate and build consensus on matters that could affect the credibility and legitimacy of the electoral process.

Participants are also expected to identify post-election issues requiring national agreement, with the aim of maintaining peace, political stability and continuity in South Sudan’s state-building process.

The dialogue comes as the government and political stakeholders continue preparations for the planned December elections, which are expected to mark a major step in the country’s political transition.
