Kiir calls for regulation of mining activities, stronger security in Greater Pibor

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed government institutions to formalize and regulate mining activities in Raad, Greater Pibor Administrative Area, while ensuring companies operating there comply with South Sudanese laws.

Kiir issued the directive Wednesday after receiving a briefing from Greater Pibor Chief Administrator Gola Boyoi Gola on developments in the administrative area, including mining activities, security concerns and recent tensions involving Murle age-set groups.

The President called for greater government oversight of mining operations in Raad and stressed the need for companies operating in the area to follow national laws and regulations.

The briefing also covered security conditions in Greater Pibor, where recent tensions between Murle age-set groups have raised concerns about stability in the area.

Kiir directed relevant authorities to strengthen security measures and work with the Greater Pibor administration to address emerging challenges.

The directives come as the government seeks to improve oversight of natural resource activities and strengthen security and administration in areas affected by conflict and instability.
