WFP Condemns Aerial Attack on Food Aid Trucks in Sudan’s South Kordofan

The United Nations World Food Programme on Wednesday condemned an aerial attack that struck two trucks carrying food assistance near Dilling in Sudan’s South Kordofan state, destroying more than 50 metric tons of humanitarian supplies.

The attack occurred Aug. 30 as the trucks were transporting WFP food assistance to Kadugli. The vehicles were clearly marked with WFP banners and flags, according to the agency.

The destroyed supplies included cereals, yellow split peas, vegetable oil and salt. WFP said the food was enough to provide lifesaving assistance to about 5,800 people for one month.

WFP is currently supporting nearly 58,000 people in Kadugli who are facing emergency levels of food insecurity or worse through in-kind food assistance.

The agency said the attack was the latest in a series of incidents disrupting humanitarian operations in Sudan. Since the beginning of 2026, WFP has recorded eight aerial attacks that have damaged its premises and disrupted its activities.

WFP urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians, humanitarian workers and aid assets.

“Attacks on aid workers and humanitarian operations are unacceptable and must stop,” the agency said.

The incident comes as Sudan continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis driven by conflict, displacement and widespread food insecurity.
