The South Sudan government has honored humanitarian workers serving communities across the country, commending their dedication and remembering those who have lost their lives while delivering aid.
In a statement marking World Humanitarian Day 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation recognized national humanitarian workers who continue to serve in remote and challenging areas, often far from their families.
“We honor their dedication and remember those who have lost their lives in the course of humanitarian service,” the ministry said, adding that their contributions would not be forgotten.
The government said it values cooperation with humanitarian partners and remains committed to facilitating humanitarian access and assistance to people in need in accordance with national laws and humanitarian principles.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of humanitarian personnel, stressing that international humanitarian law provides important protections for aid workers and that all parties and actors have a responsibility to respect applicable obligations.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said humanitarian diplomacy remains an important part of the government’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with humanitarian partners, diplomatic missions and the international community.
It said such engagement is aimed at promoting respect for international humanitarian law and creating an environment in which humanitarian assistance can be delivered safely and effectively.
The ministry concluded by honoring those serving communities in need, remembering aid workers who have lost their lives and reaffirming the government’s commitment to constructive cooperation in support of humanitarian action across South Sudan.
