Sexual violence continued to affect women, girls and other vulnerable people in conflict-affected areas in July, with reported incidents documented across Africa, Asia and the Americas, according to a monthly briefing by Insecurity Insight.

The Reporting Sexual Violence Monthly News Brief for July 2026 documented cases involving state security forces, armed groups and unidentified perpetrators. The report cautioned that most incidents of sexual violence are never reported and that the compilation is neither complete nor representative of the overall scale of the problem.

In South Sudan, a lactating woman was reportedly raped by five armed youths on July 20 while traveling to Nyambor payam in Nyirol County, Jonglei state, to seek food assistance from relatives. She was referred to an MSF-supported health facility in Pieri for medical treatment and psychosocial support, according to OCHA’s Humanitarian Update.

The report also documented cases in the Central African Republic, where 10 women and girls were reportedly subjected to sexual violence by unidentified armed men on July 20 while collecting mushrooms in Kété Sido village, Ouham-Fafa prefecture. Some survivors were evacuated for specialized medical care, while others were referred for medical and psychosocial support.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, reported incidents included the sexual assault of a woman by three soldiers in Kwilu province and the rape and killing of a woman in South Kivu province. Another group of women was reportedly sexually assaulted during an ambush on vehicles along the Bukavu-Walungu-Mwenga road.

The briefing also recorded reported cases in Ethiopia, Sudan, Myanmar and India, among other countries. In Sudan’s North Darfur state, two women were reportedly raped in separate incidents involving armed men in July.

In Myanmar, several cases involving women and girls were attributed to Myanmar military soldiers, including incidents in which women were reportedly raped in their homes, detained and assaulted, or attacked while carrying out everyday activities.

Insecurity Insight said its monthly briefing compiles publicly reported cases of sexual violence involving law enforcement bodies, conflict-related sexual violence and violence targeting internally displaced people, refugees and other vulnerable groups. The organization said the information is drawn from local, national and international media reports and online databases.

The report said it aims to document the experiences of survivors who speak publicly about sexual violence while recognizing that many cases remain unreported.
