UNMISS to Launch Countrywide Community-Focused Campaign

By Patricia John Kenyi Sasa

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan is pleased to announce the launch of a countrywide community-focused peace campaign on the 13th of this month.

The “Peace Begins with Me” campaign aims to enhance efforts by all South Sudanese to establish strong foundations for lasting peace, democracy, and development.

The initiative will kick off simultaneously in Juba, Central Equatoria; Yambio, Western Equatoria; and Renk, Upper Nile.

This year-long campaign is designed to motivate and empower individuals to understand that every action they take, no matter how small, will contribute to building momentum toward sustainable peace.

In a statement, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of UNMISS, Nicholas Haysom, emphasized that the campaign is part of the organization’s support for all stakeholders.

“The ‘Peace Begins with Me’ campaign is about celebrating South Sudan’s diversity, forging a shared national identity, and ensuring that every voice is heard as the country moves towards its first elections. It is also part of our ongoing support for all stakeholders as they work to end conflict and create a better future together.”
