Rumbek’s wounded Bishop-elect discharged from Hospital

By John Agok

The Bishop-elect of the Rumbek Diocese has been finally discharged from the hospital in Nairobi, Kenya after nursing gunshot wounds.

Father Rev. Christian Carlassare, an Italian faithful can now stand alone without crutches support as he was seen standing while preaching last Sunday in Nairobi.

“By the grace of God; we can confirm that, our Bishop- elect was discharged from the Hospital about two weeks ago.

He can now walk by himself,” said Fr. Andrea Osman, a senior Church leader in Rumbek Diocese

Father Carlassare delivered his speech to Congregation at St. John the Baptist Parish at Kawangare, Nairobi city.

However, Fr. Osman appreciated the Divine Missionaries at Kyale in Nairobi for the care and moral support towards the Bishop’s life.

“We as the Diocese of Rumbek are very privilege to Divine Missionaries for the good care given to our Bishop-elect”, he added.

Fr. Osman could not tell when exactly the Bishop-elect will be coming back to South Sudan for his installation as the Bishop of Rumbek Diocese.

“Up to now, we are not informed on when he is coming back to Rumbek after his discharge from the hospital”, he concluded.

Mr. Kerbino Kuel Deng, a Rumbek native in Nairobi under the scholarship of Rumbek Diocese said the Bishop’s condition was stable.

“I saw the improvement of our Bishop-elect on Sunday when he was preaching while standing alone without the crutches support”, he said.

Kuel applauded the Catholic Church’s Management in Nairobi for rendering all the necessary support to care for Bishop.

“I am much appreciative to the Catholic management for taking good care of our Bishop-elect and this will send a clear message of hope to all faithful in our Diocese of Rumbek”, he added.

Bishop-elect was shot and wounded at the two legs in April this year but was later rushed to Nairobi for better medical attention, after losing blood transfusion.

But Rev. Matthew Remijio Adam was later appointed to act as Apostolic Administrator for Rumebk though he is Wau Diocese’s Bishop.

The Diocese of Rumbek has been without Bishop for almost ten years, since July 2011, when Caesar Mazzolari, an Italian Comboni Missionary passed on.
