Empower Youth Africa in partnership with Save the Children through Local Respond Pool Fund (LRPF) responded to IDPs/returnee including youth who continue to face various protection concerns including rampant recruitment/ joining of children into army forces, outbreak of inter-community conflict between two communities Ngok Dinka of Abyei and Dinka Twic of Warrap State.
Also, the current outbreak of Sudanese civil war in Sudan which lead many Sudanese youth to fled their country to the neighboring countries like South Sudan which is an entry point of Akuong and Majook Yinthiou which has increased IDPS and returnee in Majook Yinthiou municipality and Akuong Boma of Malual Baai Payam, Aweil East county. Through this support, EYA was able to tackle GBV and protection concerns by supporting and distributing sanitary pads and soap to 500 IDPs, returnee and host communities of Majook Yinthiou and Akuong Boma.
The distribution was done by EYA’s Project Coordinator Mr. Deng Teng Achien and witnessed by Mr. Kerbino Yel Dut of Majok Yinthiou and Mr. Atem Garang, Boma Administrator of Akuong Boma of Malual Baai Payam, Aweil East County. The distribution aimed to provide support based on individual protection assistance as part of case management support among IDPS, Returners and host Community boys and girls in the IDPS/Returners entry point in Aweil East County.
RRC representative of Majook Yinthiou Mr. Kerbino Yel Dut appreciated the good work done by Empower Youth Africa and the supporting partners, ‘’Save the Children and Local Respond Pool Fund for this great assistance to IDPs/returnee people in Majook Yinthiou.
Yel continue by saying, There are many returnee and IDPs who are still coming from Sudan Via Majook Yinthiou road by footing and there is need for GBV actors to support the returnees who are mostly women and girls in these sites to reduce their vulnerability to GBV risk and also to ensure that they return safely to their places of origin. There is also need to address other protection concerns like shelter, lack of food, lack of latrines amongst others which exposes women and girls risks.
