The Governor of Northern Bahr El GAzal state, Tong Aken Ngor alongside his cabinet ministers abruptly visited Aweil town market where he decried the high food prices despite his government clearing imported sorghum from neighboring Sudan.

Ngor said prices are still soaring despite the delivery of sorghum from Sudan.

“I came to see the prices by myself, we have recently got vehicles trickling in from Sudan with food items especially the sorghum, why are traders still increasing the prices is what I want to know,” Ngor said on Saturday.

“Some people are still working against the set policies. The affluent people are not thinking about what is affecting our people especially the hungr. This is not good at all, we need to work to help our people from the looming hunger,” he added.

The traders said that the visit of the governor is good as he is aware of the challenges they encounter while doing business.

They said that the prices are still high because of the appreciation of the U.S dollar against the South Sudan Pound.

The SSP is currently exchanging 93,000 with the dollar in the black market in Aweil town.
